Ozzie’s Final Prosthetic Leg

Final Leg Renders

We are happy to announce the after the last two months of hard work, experiments and tests we have finalized Ozzie’s prosthetic leg.  For the past two weeks Ozzie walked with his final test leg proving that the design is solid and he is adapting quite nicely to using a prosthesis. We have learnt a lot through the process and are very happy to see positive results as Ozzie’s life is getting as close to normal for a goose as it can get.

Ozzie’s Upgrade at work

Ozzie Update

Ozzie just received another upgraded leg this past Friday, we sorted a few problems with the previous one and I am happy to that we can now finalize the design for his final leg. We shortened the foot’s skeletal base so he has more flex in front making it was easier to walk, we also added some movement to the ankle which provided us with good information about what the final angles should be. He will be walking with this leg until the final one arrives.

Ozzie get’s an upgrade

legs 001

Ozzie has so far spend some time practicing walking on his test legs and getting used to the idea of walking again. His overall mood has improved and he seems to be a happier goose all together, he is even swimming more than he used too! This week we printed an upgraded version designed by Jeané Bresler from BunnyCorp, she combined some of the previous designs and we also cast silicone over his prosthetic foot to give him a bit more grip on slippery or smooth surfaces.

Ozzie Swims with his new 3D Printed Leg

Ozzie usually only goes for a quick swim as he could only swim in circles with one leg! Today he couldn’t get out of the pool, we are happy to see that he is learning to swim straight with his 3D Printed leg. Video with ompliments from his parents, the Burger’s, thanks for sharing 🙂

We are busy with a big upgrade to the existing design and will be manufacturing and fitting it within the coming week so keep an eye out!

Ozzie’s Leg .. First Update

G6

Ozzie had quite a week spending every day getting used to his new leg and practicing walking. We adapted the foot on the one prosthetic to make it larger to match his other foot and did some tests to evaluate what design changes would need to be implemented to improve the current designs. We learnt much from the test samples he used this week and now have a much better understanding of what needs to be done.  Our ext step is to apply the design changes and 3D print them for our next phase of tests, if they are successful we can start planning the final high end print. We have a few ideas regarding covering the print in a rubber like material that could assist with more flex and grip ad our prediction is that the final design will be a more skeleton-like 3D print with cast rubber encapsulating the print. This will most likely feature in our next attempt.
